How to use DeMite Laundry Additive, and a few simple ways to cut down dust mite allergens in your bedroom.
How to use DeMite
- Sort laundry by the care instructions on each item.
- Choose any water temperature. DeMite works in cold, warm or hot water.
- As the washer fills, add your usual detergent.
- Add about 1.5 tablespoons (¾ oz) of DeMite, or 1.5 teaspoons (7.5 ml) for HE machines, while the washer fills or once it’s full.
- Add your bedding, including mattress pads.
A 1 liter bottle covers about 45 loads (133 in an HE machine). An 8 oz bottle covers about 11 loads (32 HE).
Cut down dust mites in your bedroom
Wash bedding weekly
Your bed holds more dust mites than anywhere else in your home. Wash sheets, pillowcases, blankets and mattress pads every week with DeMite.
Tip: choose washable bedding, and swap feather or wool pillows for washable synthetic ones.
Encase the mattress and pillows
Mite-proof covers on your mattress, box spring and pillows keep the mites inside them from reaching your bedding.
Skip the scalding wash
Very hot water (over 140°F) is often suggested for killing mites, but it can scald and it’s hard on fabrics and colors. Keep your water heater at 120°F or below and let DeMite do the work.
Filter the air and floors
Use a vacuum with true HEPA filtration, or high-efficiency double-lined bags, and vacuum around and under the bed weekly. A true HEPA air cleaner helps with what’s in the air.
Keep pets off the bed
Give pets their own washable bed away from yours, and brush them regularly to cut down on loose dander.
Choose easy-care window coverings
Washable curtains or simple shades collect less dust than heavy drapes or slatted blinds.
Cautions
May irritate eyes or skin. Do not ingest. Keep out of the reach of children.
Eye or skin contact: flush with water for 10 minutes. If swallowed: drink large glasses of water. Call a physician if needed.
Ingredients: non-ionic surfactant, solvent, benzyl benzoate, tea tree oil, methyl salicylate.
