Using your SinuPulse Elite

Getting started with nasal irrigation on your SinuPulse Elite: choosing a tip, mixing the saline rinse, and step-by-step use and cleaning.

Talk with your doctor about nasal irrigation before you start, and follow their instructions if they differ from these.

Before you start

Choose a tip

Your SinuPulse Elite comes with two tips: the Standard Flex sinus irrigator tip and the Sinu Mist atomizer tip. Use whichever works best for you, or ask your doctor which they recommend.

The Sinu Mist tip is for use only with the SinuPulse Elite.

Mix the saline rinse

Remove the water tank and fill it with room-temperature or lukewarm water, between 92°F and 101°F (33–38°C). Never use hot or boiling water.

For every 16 oz (0.47 liter) of water, add one SinuAir packet (5 g), or one teaspoon of non-iodized salt. Mix well before use. You can also use a solution your doctor prescribes.

Step by step

  1. Take the handle from its holder and push the sinus tip firmly into the handle until it clicks into place. If it doesn’t click easily, wet the grooved end of the tip with water first. To remove a tip, press and hold the orange quick-release button on the back of the handle.
  2. With the Standard Flex tip, set the pressure so the water stream is about one inch high before the tip goes in your nose.
  3. Lean over the sink, looking down at the drain, and place the tip gently but firmly in one nostril. Rest your tongue against the roof of your mouth so the rinse drains out of your nose, not your mouth.
  4. Turn the unit on at the base, or release the pause switch on the handle. The rinse flows into one nostril, through the nasal passages and out the other.
  5. Adjust the pressure to a comfortable setting, or as your doctor directs. Keep going until the rinse runs clear, about 250 cc or half the tank.
  6. Turn the unit off.
  7. Move the tip to the other nostril and repeat.
  8. When you’re done, gently blow your nose. Don’t block both nostrils completely, so you don’t put pressure on your ear drums.

Stop irrigating when your nasal condition clears, or as your doctor directs.

Cleaning after each use

  • Rinse the unit thoroughly with clean water after every use.
  • Never leave liquid in the water tank.
  • Put the tip back in its holder when you’re finished.

Warnings

  • Use only lukewarm water, never hot or boiling water.
  • Don’t use it if your nasal passages are completely blocked, or if you have a new or acute ear infection.
  • Stop and contact your doctor if you feel pressure in your ears.
  • Use it only if you can fully understand and follow these instructions. It isn’t suitable for anyone who can’t stand and lean over a basin, or who is bedridden or seriously disabled.
  • For children: recommended only for children over 5 who understand the process and can follow an adult’s instructions. The adult should fully understand the process first.
